Gaza Valley is considered as one of those very little areas that remain in Gaza Strip where migratory and residing birds lodge at. Birds also find it a secure place to alight and to feed themselves. There are some rare and endangered birds that find it a good place for settling down such as crex crex and the Aquila according to the IUCN. This area is a world wide classified as and attractive place for birds according to the international criteria proposed by the Birdlife International Council such as :- White Stork, Moorhen, Ibis, Herons….etc
This Wadi extends from southern Hebron, a place called Wadi khalil, near Alsamou Village, to the southern part of Gaza City and to the northern part of Deir El-balah City crossing a distance of about 10-20 km length in Naqav desert. The water of this Wadi reaches the Mediterranean sea as its final destination. This wadi is the only place where the sea birds can be seen.
About 1200 dunums of the Wadi are salty that consists of moving sand hills and coastal area. About 2000 dunums are good areas for plants and Wildlife in general. The bare sandy areas in the south west of the area are a big home for the reptiles in Gaza strip.
Gaza beach is the only marine way out for the Palestinians in addition to the natural area of Wadi Gaza. These facts raise many questions that focus on the importance of this area to attract the economists and inventors to develop the area and use it in a useful way.
It also should be utilized in an excellent and modern way so that they can benefit from it economically and culturally while preserving it and preserves its contents and its importance.
If Gaza beach, from Jabalia to Rafa, is developed well, it will be p a prominent and a unique place for the international and local tourists, and it will also be as the other beaches that lie on the coastal areas of the Mediterranean sea that have a global reputation.
The Wadi Gaza area must be kept as a natural reserve for its creatures that live in its water and the surroundings such as the different kinds of animals and plants available. Apart from these animals, there are the tiny creatures and plants/ and the migratory and resident birds and those that are endangered species because of the pollution resulted from the chemical wastes thrown it. Wadi Gaza water is not pure and eventually is not good for human use and for irrigation. The Israeli settlements in the area are the main cause of this polluted water as the settlers drop and throw their chemical wastes in it together with their sewage system that extends to it at its final destination.
The Palestinians who live in the area are partly responsible for this pollution as they are not aware of its importance and never ask for help though they carry on some fishing from time to time that leads to poisoned cases among them.
People usually cross the wadi on foot!! As pedestrians do in the streets. A bridge over the Wadi is of a great need to help the people cross the Wadi without harming themselves and without damaging the Wadi by increasing its dirt. Some vehicles also cross the water causing some destruction to the area. An immediate plan must be suggested and implemented to save the Wadi and to save the people who live there.
The children are the main section of the society who are exposed to its dangers and so people and those who find themselves interested must work hard and do their best to save the Wadi and preserve its usefulness, to save the life of the children and maintain the natural balance of the area.
